Buxom babes and the big screen — that was the mantra that made Russ Meyer famous.

The original indie director, who populated his films with big-bosomed women, beginning with ‘The Immoral Mr. Teas’ in 1959 (the same year that John Cassavetes released ‘Shadows’) and continuing through such wanton epics as ‘Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!’ and ‘Super Vixens,’ was the king of exploitation films in the early 1960s.

Now Deadline reports that Fox Searchlight is looking at a pitch package that would have David O. Russell directing the Meyer story — depending on whether or not the studio can get the rights to the Jimmy McDonough book ‘Big Bosoms and Square Jaws: The Biography of Russ Meyer, King of the Sex Film’ — with a script by Merritt Johnson, who co-wrote the HBO telepic ‘Temple Grandin’ and penned ‘Lovelace,’ the ‘Deep Throat’ star Linda Lovelace bio.

Meyer was a true auteur — he produced, wrote, directed, edited, photographed and distributed all his films — and packed away millions of dollars on exploitation flicks made on shoestring budgets. He went from nudie-cuties such as ‘Teas’ and ‘Eve and the Handyman’ in the early 1960s to gritty, surreal grindhouse films like the cult classic ‘Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!’ and ‘Motor Psycho.’ In the 70s he made the big studio ‘Beyond the Valley of the Dolls’ (scripted by a young Roger Ebert) and the wacky ‘Supervixens’ and ‘Beyond the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens.’

Recommendation: Pick up a copy right now of ‘Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!’ The film stars Tura Satana (2009’s ‘Sugar Boxx’) as the leader of a group of three strippers driving three fast cars who meet a young couple in the desert, get rid of the boyfriend, take the woman hostage, and then hole up in a secluded ranch populated by a wheel-chair bound man and his two sons. It’s outrageous.
