Garry Marshall has created a new twist on ensemble movies: He’s decided to corner the market on holiday-themed films. Earlier this year he directed the highly successful ‘Valentine’s Day’ romantic comedy of intertwining characters and stories; now he’s going to follow that up with ‘New Year’s Eve.’
Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank and Ashton Kutcher are either in negotiations or getting ready to talk about starring in the film, which tells intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers dealing with romantic matters during the course of one New Year’s Eve, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
De Niro will play a bitter dying man, Pfeiffer will be a frustrated executive secretary who decides to tackle her unfulfilled resolutions, Swank would play a producer of the famed Times Square New Year’s Eve show and Kutcher would play a guy who hates New Year’s Eve.
The New Line film is aiming for a mid-December shoot in New York.
