Director Marc Webb may have found his Aunt May and Uncle Ben for the reboot of Columbia’s ‘Spider-Man’ franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s HeatVision blog, Sally Field is in early talks to play Peter Parker’s aunt, while Martin Sheen is in final negotiations to play Uncle Ben.
The film, which begins shooting in December, has Andrew Garfield as Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as love interest Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as the movie’s unnamed villain.
There’s no word on how closely the characters will hew to the comic book Parker/Spider-Man history. In the comics, Aunt May was always frail and frequently got sick, adding to Parker’s personal woes. Uncle Ben’s death at the hands of a criminal was the impetus for turning Parker into a crime fighter.
Field was last seen on the big screen in 2003’s ‘Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde’ while Sheen last appeared in the Jennifer Aniston-Aaron Eckhart romantic comedy ‘Love Happens.’
